A Defence of Technical Excellence
Despite decades of progress and industry experience, many teams still find themselves stuck in the negative feedback loop of a successive march of deadlines and the plaintive, delusional cry of 'we'll fix it later'.
This feedback loop is often fuelled by an enourmous fallacy in the world of software - that you can trade-off speed and quality.
This talk takes a deep dive into this trade-off fallacy and makes the case that technical excellence - high quality software, frequently refactored, collaboratively designed & sufficiently documented - is actually a precondition for fast-moving teams and the best option for commercial success that is almost always left on the table.
